Information for New Students

Aerial Arts of Rochester offers 6 week sessions for pole dance fitness, in addition to specialty subject classes.  Our studio teaches pole tricks and combinations with choreography, so you get to learn transitions and put together sequences over time. Students will work on both the stationary and spin poles. You do not need to have upper body and core strength to get started, we will help you to build that. All ages, shapes, sizes and genders are welcome to participate.

Pre-Registration is required. Class size is limited to 12 participants for Levels 1 -3. Level 4 class is limited to 9.

In general, classes will start with a dynamic warm up, then we move onto breaking down pole tricks into easy to learn steps, we will then take those moves and start putting them together over the 6 week course. All classes end with conditioning to help you get stronger and cool down with static stretching. We always encourage students to cross-train – taking other apparatus and fitness classes will only help you improve!


PoleSamplerPole Dance Fitness Workshop
Tuesday, June 9th at 7:45pm – FULL

In this 75 minute pole dance fitness workshop, you’ll have a blast! You’ll get a taste of pole dance fitness and hang out in our aerial hammocks. The best part about attending a sampler workshop is the deals we offer to new students!
Bring shorts & leggings/yoga pants. Skip lotions/oils prior to class and please remove all jewelry for your safety.

SwingingPoleSwinging Pole Workshop

You should be at an intermediate level to take this workshop. Working on both the Swinging Chinese Pole (coated in rubber) and the Swinging Aerial Pole (brass) you will experience this traditional cirque apparatus with a twist as it is not connected to the floor. Bring tight fitting jeans with a belt and your shorts.

Work It as you TwerkIt! This fun class will have you learning all different ways to use your assets! Shake it, drop it, pop it and lock it! Choreography will be taught by Sheila Frank.

Check Back Soon for Dates

Join Sheila and learn how to move those curves –  everything from hip rolls to body waves and slinky floor work, you’ll feel like you own the stage. This class will explore choreography using the pole as a prop and allow you to explore the art of sensual movement. Bring Heels.

Core Aerial utilizes the pole and aerial hammocks to build upper body and core strength. This class will also improve your grip for both metal and fabric apparatuses.

Mondays at 7:30 – Starting 5/18
Tuesdays at 6:45pm – Starting 5/19

You’ll want to start with Level 1 – Intro to Pole formatted for entry level students and beginners. You’ll learn the basics – from how to grip the pole, stand, sit and execute simple spins.
Choreography will be taught at this level. No prior dance is needed. Don’t worry about your strength, we can help you build that! You’ll see yourself improve every week. Limited Space Available, Pre-Register for this class.

Tuesdays at 5:45pm

This is where you start learning complex spins, static poses and holds in addition to different methods of how to climb the pole. We will also work on basic inversions. Limited Space Available, Pre-Register for this class.

Thursdays at 6:45pm

This combination level 2 and 3 class is great for students that still need and want level 2 material, but are ready to start preparing or exploring level 3 moves, such as basic inversions and complex transitions. Limited Space Available, Pre-Register for this class.

Pole34Pole Dance Fitness Levels 3 & 4
Wednesdays 6:45pm

In Level 3/4, you’ll be working on inverted combinations and fun transitions. Make sure you have your basics inverts solid without hands before taking this class. They include; Inverted Crucifix, Inside and Outside Leg Hang and Inverted Straddle. You will work your way up to shouldermounts, ayshas, jade and many more. Meet Your Pole Professors!

Instructor2Jennifer Dovidio, Owner/Instructor
Jennifer is classically trained dancer for 14+ years, Certified Pole Dance Instructor (Dance Discoveries 2013) and a Certified Personal Trainer through American Muscle and Fitness (2009). Jennifer has also studied Chinese Pole at the New England Center of Circus Arts, and performed at events such as The Fringe Festival, The Monroe County Fair, the Lockport Circus, local nightclubs and fundraisers.  Jennifer won 1st place at the 2013 Central Pole Dance Championships in the Level 3 Artistic Division. In addition, she has participated in Polesque, the 2012 SuperShag Pole Fitness Invitational  and was an Elite Finalist in the American Pole Fitness Championship in 2012. Most recently, Jennifer won the 2nd place in the Level 4, Entertainment division at the Atlantic Pole Dance Championship.


Annie1Annie Tobiasz, Master Trainer
Annie is one of the industries elite pole athletes. In 2012, she was selected as 1 of 8 finalists in the American Pole Fitness Championships and took home the Video of Year Award. Annie has participated in the Midwest Pole Dance Competition, Flight Club Showcase, SuperShag Pole Fitness Invitational and holds an X-Pert Pole Instructor Certification. She specializes in flexibility/contortion and has studies under David Owen, Panni Speirs (Flexibility Plus Institute), etc. Continuing to improve her skills, Annie regularly trains under Kyra Johannsen at Body and Pole in NYC. When not hosting national workshops or judging the occasional pole competition, Annie is an artist and published oil painter.

 Sheila Frank, Instructor
Sheila has been pole dancing for over seven years. As a former gymnast, she wanted to take it to the next level and try pole fitness. She also Belly Dances for Habibi Sheesha Lounge in Buffalo NY. Sheila has been teaching pole for over the past five years including beginner through advanced level and in addition, choreography classes and development. Sheila has also participated in showcases and competitions nationwide. Sheila also has two degrees in Criminal Justice and Court Stenography.
